Does the pain "ever" go away? Yes I have and yes, it goes away. If you are talking about the death of a loved one. Yes I am. She's the first person I've ever lost that was close and dear to me. I fear that this heartache will never leave. "Everything" seems to remind me of her. Yes that is very hard. I lost my mother in 2005 and that still tears me apart. But if you have faith in God like I do and I know my mother had then you know they are in a better place and are happier than they could ever be here and we will be reunited one day. So that helps me deal with it. I'm really sorry to hear that. Thanks for letting me share this. My fiancé thinks I'm crazy and my parents just don't listen to me And sadly I don't have friends. Two days after my great grandmother's death I was laid off from my job. It was and still feels like a huge punch in the stomach. I thought all my prayers had been answered when I got my job simply cause I had finally found a job and the doctors had told us that she was getting better. But as fast as it all turned right side up, it all crashed on me hard. Yep, all that you have experienced I have been there and done that. And yet through it all I am happy. Advantage of being older than you. Been around the block a few more times and always land on my feet each time no matter what happens. Just pray each day for God's will in your life and God's blessings in all others and doors will open up for you that you did not expect. Works for me. I really thank you for being here to talk to. How about you? I havent been able to sleep right for some time now. I guess I'll let you go so you can sleep. Thank you for talking to me. I find that listening to a tv channel that I am very comfortable with, no commercials, at low volume, helps me fall asleep. Takes my mind off of the day's troubles, listening to something that interests me and off to never never land I go. Something that takes you back to your childhood, maybe happier times. The Academy Award-nominated actor, still reeling from the death last year of his 53-year-old son from pancreatic cancer, has found solace in the strangest of places: Sept. 11, 2001. The star of such films as "The Godfather, Part II" and "Do the Right Thing" is currently appearing off-Broadway in "The Shoemaker," an emotionally charged play about loss and grieving set on 9/11. "I've been looking for distractions," the 78-year-old actor says during an interview where he showed flashes of both his tenderness and his frustration. "I've found a vehicle that permits me the opportunity to vent my anger." His son, stuntman and stunt coordinator Danny Aiello III, died in May 2010. His parents are still shocked by how quickly the disease took him. "My wife won't get out of bed," Aiello says. In the play, written by Susan Charlotte, Aiello plays an Italian-Jewish cobbler who worries about a young World Trade finance worker who became his customer when she brought in a pair of high heels to be mended. The shoemaker feels certain she must have just died at ground zero, a loss that reminds him of his strained relationship with his absent daughter, the memory of his long-deceased father and the Holocaust. It is a wrenching performance, leaving Aiello drenched in his own tears. He says he draws on his memories of the terrible day when he saw the twin towers fall and from the staggering loss of his son. "I don't know why it happens. I don't bring him up, but he comes up and I'm crying. I'm not fake crying. The tears are coming out," he says. "I don't draw on it. It's just there." Directed by Antony Marsellis, the two-act drama is being presented at the Acorn Theatre in Midtown, with Alma Cuervo and Lucy DeVito — daughter of Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman — in the supporting cast. Aiello first appeared in the original one-act version of "The Shoemaker" in 2001, which became the movie "A Broken Sole," featuring Margaret Colin and Judith Light. He did the one-act version again last year in New York and encouraged Charlotte to expand it into two acts. Aiello says his performance is influenced by "Network," the 1976 movie written by Paddy Chayefsky, in which a fictional news anchor, Howard Beale, decides that he is "mad as hell," and that he is "not going to take it anymore!" "I want to express — not necessarily in an articulate way, which almost sanitizes the event — but to scream at the top of my lungs, 'I'm mad and I'm not going to take it anymore,'" he says. Aiello would love to take the play to Broadway and hopes actors across the globe will play the shoemaker, including his friend Harvey Keitel. "An actor's got to be crazy not to want to play this part," he says. Charlotte isn't sure just anyone can play it, though, citing Aiello's skills at conveying both tremendous power and gut-wrenching vulnerability, evident in films including "The Purple Rose of Cairo" and "Moonstruck." "There's nobody else who could hit every note of that character — no body that I can think of," Charlotte says. "From the vulnerability, to the toughness, to the humor. I can't think of an actor who can go to every note and make it so believable." After "The Shoemaker," Aiello plans to escape into music: He's working on a one-man musical about the gangster Al Capone and has a new CD called "Bridges" coming out in which he teams up with the rapper Hasan to give old songs a hip-hop flavor. "I hate rap," he says, laughing. "I want to introduce great classic standards to kids who've never heard of them. How do you do it? Posts: 6843 Sep 25 11 2:25 PM	On my break at work today I went outside and shared a bench with a Father and Daughter. Nice folks. She went back to work. Then the Father went on to tell me his wife had just died of cancer in a nearby rest home. Said I was sorry for his loss. He went on to explain how it was not unexpected so the grief was easier to bear in that case. He said he was with her everyday, till the end. They spoke often and frankly about her dying. He told her not to worry about her family. God will take care of them. They both agreed that in their lives together they had had more blessings from God then disappointments. Her son had to drive over 2 hours each way to be with his Mom. His father, her husband, told him not to kill himself doing that in that when she goes, she goes alone. To a better place. He was asked by someone at the rest home if he really needed to be there with his wife each day. This man, her husband, who walks with a cane and carries an oxygen bottle answered that question in the affirmative. Yes, he wanted to be there with her every day til' the end. Such a sweet man. We shared our faith in God. Agreed it was not God's will his wife died but because of the choices we make in our lives. How everyone wants to blame Satan but it is we who make the choices. He said if he had nothing to offer to this world then he would be glad to go. I told him his sharing of his faith in God, like he just did with me was very much offering this world exactly what it needs, no matter what physical condition he is in. And I say this to many who have physical ailments. Earlier today, I blogged on tech tools I use – and Steve Jobs impacts my life every day. Steve Jobs literally changed the world. Yet, he was more than an inventor. He was also a public figure – and few people have lived in the public eye like Steve. For that matter, few people have, well, slowly declined in public view. Watching his health over the last few years reminds us of our own mortality – and Steve thought that death was a good thing for all of us to consider. Steve Jobs faced death and, unlike some public figures, he spoke of it. Here is what Steve said in 2005 at the Stanford commencement address: "Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn't even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor's code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you'd have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes. I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I'm fine now. This was the closest I've been to facing death, and I hope it's the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept: No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true." Worthwhile words. It is a biblical thing to see life a fleeting (Psalm 89:47). I do not know Steve's spiritual condition, but I do know that each of us must live in the light of eternity. Steve died today. I could be tomorrow. May I live my life in light of that reality – that life is fleeting AND that eternal life is a gift to all that have been made new in Christ. His breath, she said, “indicated an arduous journey, some steep path, altitude.” Delivered at the October 16 service for Jobs at Stanford Memorial Church, Simpson, an accomplished novelist, began by describing her initial meeting of her brother for the first time when she was in her mid-20s. Simpson was born in 1957, two years after Jobs, who was given up for adoption as an infant. “Even as a feminist, my whole life I’d been waiting for a man to love, who could love me. For decades, I’d thought that man would be my father. When I was 25, I met that man and he was my brother,” Simpson said. Simpson went on to describe her strong relationship with the man now know for the revolutionizing computer world, while explaining Jobs’ work ethic and capacity for love — particularly for his wife Laurene and as a doting father to their three children. “Steve was like a girl in the amount of time he spent talking about love. Love was his supreme virtue, his god of gods. He tracked and worried about the romantic lives of the people working with him,” she said.
